Streching And Flexibility

If you are a stickler for stretching before exercise think about bending the rules. There is no good evidence that static stretching reduces the risk of injury when performed before a workout.

However, stretching in general still does body well by increasing flexibility. Do stretching whatever you want; they don't have to precede a workout. Include a few sessions of stretching in your exercise schedule to stay limber.

Whether you choose to stretch before a workout or do your flexibility exercises as a separate workout is up to you. If you stretch before a workout, be sure to warm up for a short period first. Exercise for a few minutes at moderate pace before engaging in static stretching.

Regular stretching is still important for increasing flexibility. To protect yourself from injury, stretch to the point of moderate tension but not to the point of pain. You should feel the stretch but it shouldn't hurt you. Workouts that focus on stretching and flexibility include yoga, aerobics and pilates.
